Boundaries au SAT
Boundaries tests sentence structure: whether the parts around a blank need a comma, a semicolon, a colon, a dash, or nothing at all. Every question turns on whether each side of the blank can stand alone as a sentence.

À quoi ressemblent les questions
One sentence from a passage with a blank or a set of punctuation options. Some questions offer a period or semicolon against a comma, and some offer a full stop against no punctuation.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Joining two complete sentences with a comma. The comma splice is the most common wrong answer in this group, and the repair is usually a period, a semicolon, or a comma plus a conjunction.
Comment la traiter
Check each side of the blank for a subject and a working verb. Two complete sentences need a semicolon, a period, or a comma with a conjunction. A fragment on either side needs a comma or no punctuation.

Questions sur Boundaries
- What punctuation does the SAT test in Boundaries questions?
- Commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, and periods, plus the choice of no punctuation. Parentheses and question marks appear rarely, and the questions are about the structural job of the mark rather than its stylistic effect.
- How do you decide between a colon and a semicolon?
- Both join a complete sentence to a second part, but a colon needs the second part to explain or list what the first part introduced. A semicolon just puts two complete sentences side by side. If the second half does not explain the first, the colon is wrong.
- How many Boundaries questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Standard English Conventions makes up about 26 percent of the Reading and Writing section, which is roughly 13 of the 50 scored Reading and Writing questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
