À quoi ressemblent les questions
A right triangle with some sides and an angle labelled, or a situation with an angle of elevation, asking for a side, an angle, or a trig ratio.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Using the wrong ratio or the wrong reference angle. Sine, cosine, and tangent switch roles the moment you change which angle you are calling the reference.
Comment la traiter
Label the sides opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse relative to the angle in the question, then choose the ratio that uses the two sides you have and the one you want.

Questions sur Right triangles and trigonometry
- Do you need a calculator for the trig questions?
- Rarely. Most ask for a ratio or for a side in a 30-60-90 or 45-45-90 triangle, which has exact answers. The calculator is for the desmos-heavy questions, not these.
- What is the sine of an angle equal to in a right triangle?
- The side opposite the angle divided by the hypotenuse. Its cosine is the adjacent side over the hypotenuse, and because the two acute angles are complementary, the sine of one equals the cosine of the other.
- How many Right triangles and trigonometry questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Geometry and Trigonometry makes up about 15 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 6 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
