Expected value moves from 0.25 to about 0.33 on a no penalty test. Now guess among B, C, and D. If you also recall the nucleus holds DNA, you might pause, but you are not certain it makes ATP, so you leave C in play. You pick B on a hunch about "powerhouse." Even if the hunch is weak, you have already gained the free value of elimination.
If instead you had left it blank, your expected points were zero. If you had guessed randomly among all four, 0.25. Elimination plus a reasoned pick is the best of the three, and it costs only the few seconds you spent thinking. That is the entire strategy in one question.
