Inferences en el SAT
Inferences asks you to complete the passage's logic. The text supplies evidence and the question asks what follows from it, so the answer is the smallest conclusion the passage actually supports.

Cómo son las preguntas
A short passage that either ends in a blank or is followed by a question asking which choice most logically completes or draws out the text.
El error que cuesta puntos
Going one step past the text. Distractors are reasonable guesses about the topic that the passage never establishes, and they read better than the correct answer because they explain more.
Cómo resolverlas
Say the missing step in your own words before looking at the choices. Then reject anything that needs an assumption the passage did not give you, and check that your conclusion follows from the stated evidence alone.

Preguntas sobre Inferences
- What is the difference between an inference and a guess on the SAT?
- A guess adds information from outside the passage. An inference stays inside it: every part of the conclusion has to be licensed by the text, which is why the correct answer usually sounds more cautious than the wrong ones.
- Why do wrong inference answers sound so convincing?
- They are written to be plausible about the topic rather than supported by the passage. A useful check is to ask whether the passage would be wrong if that choice were false. If the text never committed to it, the choice cannot be the answer.
- How many Inferences questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Information and Ideas makes up about 26 percent of the Reading and Writing section, which is roughly 13 of the 50 scored Reading and Writing questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
