À quoi ressemblent les questions
A function written as f(x) = mx + b, a table of inputs and outputs, a graph, or a described scenario with a starting value and a steady rate.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Reading the slope as a total instead of a rate, and treating the intercept as the starting value when the model begins somewhere else.
Comment la traiter
Name what the input and the output measure in words, then state the slope as change in output per one more unit of input. Contextual questions are almost always asking for that sentence.

Questions sur Linear functions
- How do you find the slope from a table?
- Take the change in output between two rows and divide by the change in input between the same rows. If the ratio is the same for every pair of rows, the table is linear and that ratio is the slope.
- What does f(a) = b mean in these questions?
- It gives you a point: the input a produces the output b, so the graph passes through (a, b). Questions often hand you two of these to fix a line without ever mentioning slope.
- How many Linear functions questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Algebra makes up about 35 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 14 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.

- Linear equations in one variableOne equation, one unknown.
- Linear equations in two variablesThese questions give you a line in symbols, a table, or words, and ask for a coefficient, an intercept, or a point that satisfies it.
- Linear inequalities in one or two variablesInequalities ask for the range of values that satisfies a condition, or for the part of a graph where the inequality holds.
- Systems of two linear equations in two variablesSystems ask for the pair that satisfies both equations at once, or, more often on the SAT, for how many solutions the pair has.
