À quoi ressemblent les questions
A study described in a sentence or two, with a question about the plausible range for the population value, or about whether a claim that two groups differ is supported.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Treating overlapping margins of error as proof that two groups differ, or as proof that they do not. Overlap means the data do not settle the question either way.
Comment la traiter
Write each estimate as a range by adding and subtracting its margin. Then compare the ranges: a claim about a difference needs them to separate.

Questions sur Inference from sample statistics and margin of error
- What makes a margin of error smaller?
- A larger sample and a more confident estimate both widen it, while a bigger sample narrows it. The SAT usually asks you to compare two studies rather than to calculate the margin.
- Can a sample support a claim about every member of a population?
- Only probabilistically. A random sample gives an estimate with a known range, and conclusions that go beyond that range, such as predicting a single individual, are not supported by the study.
- How many Inference from sample statistics and margin of error questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis makes up about 15 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 6 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
