À quoi ressemblent les questions
A study described in a few lines, then four conclusions. The question asks which conclusion the design supports.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Reading a cause into an observational study. Only random assignment to treatment supports a causal conclusion, and questions pair the two designs to test that.
Comment la traiter
Check two things: was treatment randomly assigned, and was the sample randomly selected. Random assignment supports a cause, random selection supports generalizing, and whichever is missing blocks that conclusion.

Questions sur Evaluating statistical claims: Observational studies and experiments
- What is the difference between random assignment and random selection?
- Random assignment decides who receives the treatment inside the study. Random selection decides who is invited into the study from the population. The first supports cause and effect, the second supports generalizing.
- How large does a sample need to be?
- The SAT does not test a size threshold. Questions compare designs, so a large unrepresentative sample is still a weak basis for a population claim, while a smaller random one is defensible.
- How many Evaluating statistical claims: Observational studies and experiments questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis makes up about 15 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 6 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.

- PercentagesPercentages asks for percent change, a percent of a quantity, or the original value after a change.
- One-variable data: Distributions and measures of center and spreadOne-variable data asks you to read a distribution: mean, median, range, standard deviation, and how one added value shifts each of them.
- Two-variable data: Models and scatterplotsTwo-variable data asks you to read a line of best fit: what its slope means, how a prediction uses it, and how far the points sit from it.
