À quoi ressemblent les questions
A short passage with a blank at a sentence boundary and four transition words. The sentence before and after the blank are the only evidence you need.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Picking a transition that sounds academic instead of one that matches the relationship. Pairs such as however and therefore point in opposite directions and are routinely offered together.
Comment la traiter
Cover the blank and name the relationship yourself: same direction, contrast, cause, example, or sequence. Then find the word that expresses exactly that, and reread both sentences with it in place.

Questions sur Transitions
- What are the transition relationships on the SAT?
- Extension, contrast, cause and effect, example or emphasis, and sequence. Almost every question reduces to choosing among those five, and the wrong choices usually belong to a different one of them.
- Does punctuation matter in Transitions questions?
- It matters in the sense that the blank always sits where two clauses meet, so the transition has to work with the punctuation already there. You are not choosing the punctuation, but a choice that only works mid-sentence will still be wrong.
- How many Transitions questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Expression of Ideas makes up about 20 percent of the Reading and Writing section, which is roughly 10 of the 50 scored Reading and Writing questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
