Official College Board Resources
These are the materials the test maker publishes. They are the closest thing to the real exam you can get for free.
AP Classroom
If your school enrolls you in AP Classroom, you get topic questions, personal progress checks, and AP Daily videos tied to each unit. Progress checks are short quizzes that mirror the exam style. Ask your teacher to assign them early in the year, not just before the exam, so you can track weak units while there is still time to fix them.
AP Daily Videos
AP Daily videos are short lessons recorded by experienced AP teachers, organized by unit. They are public on the College Board YouTube channel, so you can watch them even if your school does not use AP Classroom. Search by unit number and topic rather than watching whole courses front to back.
Released Exam Questions
College Board publishes free-response questions and scoring guidelines from past years. These are the single best free practice material for AP. Work a question under the clock, then score yourself with the published rubric. The scoring guidelines show exactly what earns each point, which teaches you how the exam is graded.
Course and Exam Descriptions
Every AP subject has a course and exam description, often called the CED. It lists the units, the weight of each unit on the multiple-choice section, the skills the exam tests, and sample questions. Read the unit weights first. They tell you where your study hours will buy the most points.
Khan Academy
Khan Academy partners with College Board and offers free AP courses for several subjects, including calculus, physics, and chemistry. The courses include videos and practice. Availability varies by subject, so check whether your course is covered before you plan around it.
Subject Study Guides on StudyInk
Each guide covers the exam format, the units, a study timeline, and common mistakes. They are free to read with no account.
- AP Biology Study Guide
- AP Calculus Study Guide
- AP Calculus BC Study Guide
- AP Chemistry Study Guide
- AP English Study Guide
- AP Environmental Science Study Guide
- AP European History Study Guide
- AP Psychology Study Guide
- AP Statistics Study Guide
- AP US Government Study Guide

If your subject is not on the list, the general AP study tips guide still applies. It covers active recall, spaced practice, and a weekly study loop that works for any AP course.
AP English Essay Feedback
AP English Language and AP English Literature are half essay by weight. The free-response section is 55 percent of the score, and the essays are graded on a 6-point rubric across three rows: thesis, evidence and commentary, and sophistication.
StudyInk offers an essay grader at essay grader that scores AP Language and AP Literature essays against that rubric. Paste your essay, optionally paste the prompt, and choose a difficulty level. The grader returns scores for each row, an overall analysis, and highlights where your evidence is weak. Results come back in seconds, and repeated essays can reuse a cached result.
The grader is free to try. It is built for AP English essays, not for the SAT essay, which College Board discontinued. If you are taking AP English, this is the fastest way to get feedback on a draft outside of class.
General Study Tools That Work for AP
AP prep is mostly content learning plus timed practice. The content side is where free study tools help most.
Turn Your Notes Into Flashcards and Quizzes
Upload a PDF, slide deck, or video to StudyInk and it generates flashcards, quizzes, and lessons from the material. For AP, this means turning a textbook chapter or a set of class notes into a deck you can review on your phone. You can also paste a YouTube link to a lecture and get a quiz from it.
Use the AI Tutor for Stuck Concepts
Inky, the AI tutor, explains concepts when you are stuck. This is useful for AP subjects with dense content, such as chemistry mechanisms or history causation chains. Ask for a simpler explanation, a worked example, or a quick quiz on the concept.
Study in Your Language
StudyInk is available in English, Spanish, and French. If you are preparing for an AP world language exam or you simply study better in another language, you can switch the interface and generate materials in that language.
No Ads, No Subscription
The platform is free to use. There are no ads and no paid tier. Fair-use limits apply to generation, but the core tools, including the essay grader preview and the study materials generator, are open without an account for trying.
How to Build a Free AP Prep Plan
A short plan beats a vague one. Here is a structure you can reuse for any AP subject.
- Lock your exam date. Use the AP exam dates guide to find your subject's date and build backward.
- Read the CED unit weights. Rank units by weight and by your current confidence.
- Study in 25 to 50 minute blocks with retrieval, not rereading. Close your notes and write what you remember, then check.
- Space the reviews. Return to a unit the next day, then three days later, then a week later.
- Practice released free-response questions under the clock and score them with the published rubric.
- For AP English, write one timed essay per week and run it through the essay grader.
- Take at least two full timed practice rounds and track your score with the AP score calculator.
For more on pacing and burnout, see AP study tips.
What StudyInk Does Not Have Yet
Honesty matters here. AP practice questions and full AP practice tests inside StudyInk are marked Coming Soon. If you need scored AP multiple-choice practice today, use official released questions from College Board and the progress checks in AP Classroom. The tools above, flashcards, quizzes from your own notes, the AI tutor, and the essay grader, are available now and can carry the content side of your prep.
Common Mistakes With Free AP Prep
- Skipping the released questions. They are free and they match the exam format. Use them.
- Studying units equally. Weight your time by CED unit weights and your weak spots.
- Saving practice essays for the last week. You need time to act on feedback.
- Ignoring the rubric. AP graders award points for specific elements, not for effort.
- Paying for a course before trying the free materials. Start free, then add paid help only for a specific gap.
