How to Use Quizzes on StudyInk

The short answer: open /quizzes to see every assessment tied to your account, grouped by category. Click a card to start, answer each question one at a time, then review your score and the questions you missed. Scores from bank quizzes and lesson quizzes are both saved for you.

Quizzes at a Glance

The Quiz List

When the page loads, it shows your saved assessments grouped by category. Each group has a heading, and inside it are assessment cards. A card shows:

• A trophy icon and a source badge. The badge reads Quiz Bank for prebuilt sets, or AI Lesson for a quiz generated from a lesson you created or imported.
• The quiz title and a one line subtitle.
• A difficulty pill and the number of questions.
• A "Start Quiz" link.

If you have no assessments yet, the page shows an empty state instead of a list.

Starting and Answering

Click Start Quiz on any card. The view switches to a single question at a time. A progress bar at the top fills as you move through the set, and a counter shows "Question X of Y".

Each question is either:

• Multiple choice, where you tap one of the option buttons. The selected option highlights.
• Free response, where you type into a text box. If the expected answer is a short number, five characters or fewer, a numeric pad appears instead of a free text field.

You cannot advance until you have answered the current question. The "Next" button stays disabled until a selection or some text exists. On the final question, the button reads "Finish Quiz".

Finishing and Reviewing

After the last question, the finish screen appears. It shows:

• Your percentage score in large text.
• The count of correct answers out of the total.
• A per question review list. Each item shows the question number, its type, and a label of "Correct" or "Needs Review".
• Two buttons: Back to Assessments and Retry.

Retry restarts the same quiz from the first question. Your score is sent to the server when you finish, so it is recorded against your account.

Opening a Quiz From Elsewhere

The quizzes page can also start a specific quiz if you arrive with query parameters. For example, a lesson page may link you to /quizzes?quizId=...&quizName=..., and the page will open that assessment automatically. The same works with a lessonId or a startCourse value.

Why Quizzing Builds Memory

The review screen is the point, not the score. Retrieval practice, answering questions rather than rereading, consistently outperforms reviewing material passively, and the benefit holds across ages and subjects Dunlosky, "Strengthening the Student Toolbox". The "Needs Review" list is your study plan for the next session. Using Retry after you have spaced the material out by a day or two turns one quiz into a spaced retrieval cycle.

Common Mistakes

• Leaving a free response blank. The next button stays locked until you type something.
• Assuming quizzes are only from the bank. Lesson quizzes appear here too, with an AI Lesson badge.
• Not using Retry. A second pass cements the items you missed the first time.
• Skipping the review list. The score tells you the total; the list tells you what to study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do quizzes come from?

They come from two sources. Quiz Bank quizzes are prebuilt sets, and AI Lesson quizzes are generated from lessons you have.

Are quiz scores saved?

Yes. When you finish, the score posts to your account. Bank quizzes and lesson quizzes both record your result.

What happens with a free response question?

You type your answer, or use the numeric pad for short numeric answers. It is graded by comparing your text to the expected answer.

Can I review what I got wrong?

Yes. The finish screen lists every question with a Correct or Needs Review label so you can see exactly where you slipped.

Why is my list empty?

You may not have any quizzes or lesson quizzes tied to your account yet. Create or import a lesson, or add a quiz to the bank, and it will appear here.

Does the timer run during quizzes?

The standard quiz screen does not impose a countdown. It tracks your position with a progress bar rather than a clock.
