Cómo son las preguntas
A figure with labelled dimensions, or a described solid, asking for an area, a volume, a surface area, or the effect of scaling a side.
El error que cuesta puntos
Missing the scaling rule. Double a radius and the area goes up by four, while the volume goes up by eight.
Cómo resolverlas
Write the formula and substitute before simplifying anything, then ask whether the changed dimension is squared or cubed in it. That second step answers the scaling questions without any arithmetic.

Preguntas sobre Area and volume
- Which formulas does the SAT provide?
- The reference sheet at the start of the Math section carries the main area and volume formulas. Knowing them from memory still saves time, since reaching the sheet itself costs clock.
- How do you handle a solid cut from a larger solid?
- Work out both volumes and subtract, or work out the dimension that changed and apply the scaling rule. The second route is faster and is what the questions are written for.
- How many Area and volume questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Geometry and Trigonometry makes up about 15 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 6 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
