Cómo son las preguntas
A quadratic in standard, factored, or vertex form, or a system pairing a line with a parabola, asking for the solutions, their sum, or the number of intersection points.
El error que cuesta puntos
Factoring when the quadratic does not factor over the integers. That is where the quadratic formula or completing the square is meant to be used.
Cómo resolverlas
Read the form first. Factored form gives the roots directly, vertex form gives the maximum or minimum, and standard form needs factoring or the formula. For a line and a curve, set them equal and count the solutions.

Preguntas sobre Nonlinear equations in one variable and systems of equations in two variables
- How do you know how many solutions a quadratic has?
- From the discriminant, b squared minus 4ac. Positive gives two real solutions, zero gives one, and negative gives none. A graph of a parabola against a line follows the same count.
- What does the sum of the solutions mean?
- For a quadratic in standard form, the two solutions add to negative b over a. That relationship answers questions asking for a sum or a product without solving the equation at all.
- How many Nonlinear equations in one variable and systems of equations in two variables questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Advanced Math makes up about 35 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 14 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
