Cómo son las preguntas
A rate or ratio in context, sometimes in a table, asking for a scaled value, a converted measurement, or a unit rate.
El error que cuesta puntos
Setting the proportion up upside down, and converting one unit while forgetting the second in a rate such as miles per hour.
Cómo resolverlas
Write the units next to every number and cancel them by hand. If the units do not reduce to the unit the question asks for, the setup is inverted and no amount of arithmetic will fix it.

Preguntas sobre Ratios, rates, proportional relationships, and units
- How do you handle a rate with two units?
- Convert one unit at a time and write each conversion as a fraction with the old unit on the bottom. Chaining the fractions makes the cancellations visible and stops you from converting one half of the rate.
- What is the difference between a ratio and a rate?
- A ratio compares two quantities in the same unit, and a rate compares quantities in different units. A rate can usually be written as a unit rate, which is the form most SAT questions ask for.
- How many Ratios, rates, proportional relationships, and units questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis makes up about 15 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 6 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.

- One-variable data: Distributions and measures of center and spreadOne-variable data asks you to read a distribution: mean, median, range, standard deviation, and how one added value shifts each of them.
- Two-variable data: Models and scatterplotsTwo-variable data asks you to read a line of best fit: what its slope means, how a prediction uses it, and how far the points sit from it.
- Probability and conditional probabilityProbability asks for the chance of an outcome from a table or a description, and the conditional version narrows the question to one group.
