Words in Context en el SAT
Words in Context asks you to choose the word or short phrase that fits a short passage. The passage decides the answer, not a definition you memorized, because most of these words already have several common meanings.

Cómo son las preguntas
A passage of roughly 25 to 150 words with a blank, followed by four single words or short phrases. Some questions ask which choice is the most logical and precise; others underline a word in the text and ask what it means as used there.
El error que cuesta puntos
Answering from the word's most familiar meaning. A choice can fit the topic of the passage and still break the sentence it sits in, and that is what most wrong answers do.
Cómo resolverlas
Cover the choices and write your own word in the blank first. Then pick the closest option, put it back into the sentence, and reread the whole thing. If two choices both fit, a contrast word or a qualifier nearby usually decides which one the sentence needs.

Preguntas sobre Words in Context
- Do you need to memorize vocabulary for Words in Context questions?
- Not lists of definitions. The questions test whether a word fits one specific sentence, so practicing on real passages teaches more than a word list does. Knowing the shades of meaning of common academic words still helps, because the wrong choices are usually close in meaning rather than unrelated.
- What words does the SAT use in Words in Context questions?
- Usually words you already know that carry more than one sense, such as sound, novel, reserve, or account. The task is picking the sense the passage needs, which is why reading the surrounding sentence matters more than knowing a rare definition.
- How many Words in Context questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Craft and Structure makes up about 28 percent of the Reading and Writing section, which is roughly 14 of the 50 scored Reading and Writing questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
