Command of Evidence au SAT
Command of Evidence gives you a claim and asks which piece of evidence supports it, usually by choosing a quotation from a passage or a finding from a study. Some versions ask what would weaken the claim instead.

À quoi ressemblent les questions
A short passage states a claim, a hypothesis, or a researcher's expectation. The choices are quotations, findings, or study results, and the question asks which one supports or undermines the statement.
L'erreur qui coûte des points
Picking evidence that is related to the topic without bearing on the specific claim. The test rewards evidence that would be false if the claim were false.
Comment la traiter
Write the claim as one sentence before reading the choices. Then ask of every option whether it shows the claim, or merely mentions the subject the claim is about.

Questions sur Command of Evidence
- What does the SAT mean by support in a Command of Evidence question?
- The evidence has to make the claim more likely to be true, not just sit in the same subject area. A finding about a different group, a different time, or a different mechanism can be interesting and still not support the claim in front of you.
- How do you handle the versions that ask what would weaken a claim?
- Flip the test: look for evidence that makes the claim less likely, such as a result in the opposite direction or an explanation that accounts for the same data another way. The right answer still has to speak to the same claim, which removes most of the choices.
- How many Command of Evidence questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Information and Ideas makes up about 26 percent of the Reading and Writing section, which is roughly 13 of the 50 scored Reading and Writing questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.
