Cómo son las preguntas
A one-variable inequality to solve, or a two-variable inequality to match with a shaded region, often inside a constraint story such as a budget or a minimum requirement.
El error que cuesta puntos
Forgetting to flip the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative, and mixing up solid and dashed boundary lines on the graph.
Cómo resolverlas
Solve as you would an equation, then flip the sign the moment you multiply or divide by a negative. On graph questions, test one point on each side of the line to confirm which region is shaded.

Preguntas sobre Linear inequalities in one or two variables
- When is the boundary line dashed?
- When the inequality is strict, meaning less than or greater than, because the line itself is not part of the solution. The inequality with or equal to uses a solid line.
- How do systems of inequalities show up?
- As a region where the shaded areas overlap. Each inequality contributes one boundary, and the solution is the set of points that satisfies every condition at once, which is why the questions usually ask about a point rather than the whole region.
- How many Linear inequalities in one or two variables questions are on the SAT?
- College Board does not publish a count per question type, only per content domain. Algebra makes up about 35 percent of the Math section, which is roughly 14 of the 40 scored Math questions on a full form. Questions on this skill come out of that share.

- Linear equations in one variableOne equation, one unknown.
- Linear equations in two variablesThese questions give you a line in symbols, a table, or words, and ask for a coefficient, an intercept, or a point that satisfies it.
- Linear functionsLinear functions asks you to read or build a function whose graph is a line, and to say what its slope and intercept mean in a situation.
- Systems of two linear equations in two variablesSystems ask for the pair that satisfies both equations at once, or, more often on the SAT, for how many solutions the pair has.
